A significant milestone in hampers.com’s sustainability journey was achieving Certified Carbon Neutral status. This accomplishment was the result of a rigorous carbon output assessment conducted in association with Carbon Footprint.

The QAS-approved assessment ensured the highest levels of confidence that our carbon emission calculation methodology was independently verified and transparent.

Understanding the sources of our carbon emissions enabled us to carefully consider impactful offsetting projects which align with our mission to care for both people and the planet.

packaging & logistics

We know that eco-conscious packaging and logistics are essential for reducing environmental impact.

This is why we have ensured that all outer cardboard packaging, and inner cardboard packaging is 100% recyclable. Not to mention, all of hampers.com’s cardboard is FSC certified - the gold standard designation for wood harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial and environmentally conscious.

To protect the artisan foods and wines inside our gift hampers, hampers.com use 100% recyclable, biodegradable and compostable wood wool. Wood wool is an ethical, environmentally friendly, untreated product made from renewable raw materials which are obtained during annual tree thinning.

In addition, hampers.com's beautiful wicker hampers, bamboo trays and willow baskets are entirely re-usable, made of sustainable materials, and are biodegradable.

Prioritising small, sustainable, and British artisan producers wherever possible, hampers.com not only ensures exceptional craftsmanship and authenticity, but also nurtures local economies.

By championing independent businesses, we hope to contribute to the growth of small business communities across the UK, fostering a more sustainable marketplace that values people, the planet, and artisan production.

Our headquarters embody our commitment to sustainable business practices in every way possible. We have equipped our warehouse with low-power LED lighting and a low energy heating system.

Recycling is another key focus, with the hampers.com team diligently ensuring that all excess cardboard is baled and regularly collected.

This commitment extends throughout every gift's journey, and throughout our logistics and delivery operations. We do not own a fleet of vehicles, and instead utilise third-party couriers to avoid adding more vehicles to the road. Wherever possible, each courier aims to use electric vehicles. 

Best of all, our skilled warehouse team picks and packs every single gift by hand. At hampers.com, we proudly employ some of the longest-standing hand-packers in the industry, ensuring the highest levels of quality. The team are seasoned experts that take genuine pride in crafting each hamper with care and precision.

As an Accredited Real Living Wage employer, every member of hampers.com, whether temporary or permanent, receives an hourly wage that exceeds government standards. At hampers.com, a hard day's work is always met with a fair day's pay. 

After implementing the Real Living Wage, Director, Hannah Lia, explained that "This was something we felt strongly about for some time; we already paid all of our permanent staff considerably more than the Real Living Wage. Having the official accreditation means that we are now externally accountable for continuing this commitment to our team. It’s important to us that we extend this pledge to our temporary staff too, who are so important to our success at the busiest times of the year.”.

In 2024, hampers.com were proud to become a corporate partner of Oxfordshire Mind. Local to hampers.com's headquarters, Oxfordshire Mind is a charity dedicated to ensuring anyone experiencing poor mental health has somewhere to turn for advice and support. Oxfordshire Mind's services include counselling, peer support, and community-based programs designed to reduce isolation and foster resilience within the community.

This collaboration marked a significant milestone for each organisation, reflecting a shared commitment to improving mental health and wellbeing within the Oxfordshire locality. 

Oxford Food Hub

At hampers.com, we work closely with local organisation, Oxford Food Hub, donating products from our gifts, which are either getting close to their best-before date or are being discontinued.

Rather than allowing food to go to waste, we choose to collaborate with Oxford Food Hub to ensure these great quality items can be shared amongst those who need them most.

Since 2022, hampers.com has donated over 600kg of food to Oxford Food Hub, helping local families and individuals in need, and reducing food waste.

At hampers.com, every member of staff is allocated time for, and actively encouraged to take part in volunteering initiatives within the local community.

Recently, hampers.com joined with Creating Nature’s Corridors to plant 500 new trees at a local primary school. This initiative is part of Creating Nature’s Corridors broader mission to encourage biodiversity and create greener spaces for future generations.

For the local primary school, this initiative brings immediate and long-term benefits. Not only will the children gain a hands-on experience in environmental conservation, but they will also see firsthand how their school grounds evolve into a thriving green space that supports local wildlife and enhances their environment.
