celebrating our women-owned producers: Yorkshire Flapjack

March 8th 2025 marks International Women's Day, and this year’s theme, Accelerate Action, calls for urgency in advancing gender equality. According to the World Economic Forum, if progress continues at its current pace, true gender parity will not be realised until the year 2158. At hampers.com, we firmly believe that meaningful change cannot wait this long; it must begin today.

hampers.com champions gender equality by actively working with women-owned makers, producers and agencies, wherever possible. Supporting women-owned businesses helps break down systemic barriers, leading to greater equality in industries where women have historically been underrepresented.

In this blog, hampers.com interviews Katie Wilson, Director of Yorkshire Flapjack, to learn more about her journey as a female entrepreneur. Read on to meet Katie and learn all about the story behind building Yorkshire Flapjack.

“Don't let anything or anyone stop you! Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others. There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.”

- Katie Wilson, Yorkshire Flapjack

At the heart of Yorkshire Flapjack is Director, Katie Wilson, a passionate entrepreneur whose journey was shaped by family, resilience, and above all, a love for good food. Inspired by her father to take the leap into business and guided by her mother’s unwavering strength, Katie has built a truly delicious brand that blends tradition with innovation.

She believes that women bring something truly special to the food industry - a combination of precision, care, and attention to detail that elevates every bite. Her leadership style reflects this philosophy, as she works side by side with her team, fostering a culture of collaboration.

Whilst Katie’s work has earned her numerous awards, what truly matters most to her is simple: creating delicious bakes which people love. She is a firm believer in the limitless potential of women in business, and Yorkshire Flapjack is proof of just that.

hampers.com interviews Katie Wilson...

As part of hampers.com's International Women's Day celebrations, we were lucky enough to interview Katie about her business journey, her experience of being a female entrepreneur, and ask what advice she would give to other women in business:

hampers.com: What inspired you to start, own or lead your own business?

Katie: My family bakery - my father had a small family bakery selling bread, cakes and more! I started working for them in the summer holidays and the rest is history. 7 years later and we now have two brands - Yorkshire Flapjack and British Bakes & Cakes!

Both my mother and father are now working closely in the business to grow it from strength to strength.

hampers.com: What challenges did you overcome during this process, specifically as a woman entrepreneur?

Katie: Juggling too many things and wanting to be in control of every little aspect. But, as the business has grown, I have had to overcome the process to trust others to take on my roles.

hampers.com: What advice would you give to other women looking to break into your industry or start their own businesses?

Katie: The sky is your limit! Any mistakes made on a business journey is the making of your business to become stronger!

hampers.com: What does this year’s International Women’s Day theme - ‘accelerate action’ mean to you, and how do you celebrate or reflect on its significance in your business?

Katie: Our factory is a 50/50 split of men and women in all sectors of the business. We reflect on this ratio and are really proud of having women also driving the business from strength to strength.
