Spice Kitchen are a multi-award winning producer of beautiful spice tins and other spice gifts.

The flavours they bring to traditional Indian recipes is just incredible. As a company, they have wonderful ethics and raise money to help a range of charitable work too.

“We never set out to make money or even create a business, but that silly little idea over a decade ago has changed our lives.”
- Sanjay Aggarwal, Spice Kitchen

The Producer

Meet this mother and son team

Spice Kitchen is run by a mother and son team, affectionally known as “Mamma Spice & Baby Spice!”.

Sanjay and Shashi Aggarwal wanted to honour their Indian heritage and make their ancestors proud. To do this, they set about creating spice tins, inspired by Sashi’s idea, as a way to keep busy following retirement.

Whilst they are passionate about flavour and authentic Indian cooking, they are also driven to give back.

They sponsor the Karma Curry Movement, a charity that works to tackle human trafficking in India. They also support Curry for Change - a fundraising organisation that helps  change the lives of rural families in Asia and Africa who suffer from hunger – and Akshaya Patra Foundation – with the sale of each spice tin helping to buy a free school meal for a child in education in India.

Plus, they also support The Whitechapel Centre, a homeless and housing charity local based in the UK.

All of the spices are authentically sourced and as Spice Kitchen continues to grow they are committed to offering all staff a fair/living wage; giving young people work opportunities, as well as hiring people who are socially disadvantaged and who might struggle to find work elsewhere.

Flavours influenced by heritage

Shashi uses her extensive knowledge of cooking with spices, her heritage growing up in Kenya and her Indian cooking experience to create the most wonderful spice blends.

Influenced by flavours from around the world, Spice Kitchen now offers an expanding product range.

Alongside Great Taste Awards, one thing Spice Kitchen is known for is their packaging. Their signature Indian Spice Tin comes ‘dressed’ in recycled silk saris. They really do look beautiful.

In addition, Spice Kitchen have just published their first cookbook, full of uncomplicated recipes which have “huge flavour using one simple spice blend”.

We are very proud to feature the artisan Indian Spice Tin in our Indian Cooking and Beer Hamper. There are nine spices to offer the ultimate Indian cooking experience, with an accompanying booklet of recipes.

See also our recipes posts from Spice Kitchen, inspired by Mama Spice, including a Chickpea Curry, Tandoori Chicken, and Speedy Butter Chicken.
